Minute 65

 Minute 65 (by Vanessa Thümmes)

My second film clip has not been as easy as the first one in terms of coming up with an idea that I equally liked. I watched the minute repeatedly. With - and again - without sound, so my judgement may not be interfered with. However, what do you want to do with end credits? A bunch of names and organisations and words without understandable semantics. I walked away for a while to distance myself from the minute until I watched it again. I showed the minute to different people, trying to brainstorm different angles, perspectives, and meanings. I was hoping for some input that might spark an idea in my head. But again: nothing. The frustration level was quite high at that point, because the first idea came so quickly and easy to me that I thought: why on earth is this one so much more difficult?!?!
And THEN: the end match of the DFB- Pokal between Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig happened. I was sitting on the train back home after the big final, a little disappointed. However, then I saw the first aid cross on the wall of the train, where the first aid packages are stored. This led to this amazing idea:
I knew that the only thing I can use from the film clip is the sound. That sound is very scary and intimidating and it makes you squeak under your blanket at night. This sound combined with the first aid led me to the idea of doing a first aid course for my peers at uni. Because this sound also sensed danger and vulnerability which raised the thought of: Can everyone handle dangerous and vulnerable situations???? Since I quite recently did one first aid course myself, I thought that far too few people are properly aware of first aid help or their courses have not been refreshed for a while. However, this is so important to be prepared for the real-life situations.
Since I also wanted that my peers could take something away from my presentation again, I thought how great it is to do this for them… But how do you want to do a first aid course in 7 minutes?? Impossible!
Then I was inspired again by a guest lecturer at university who changed their personality and persona while delivering a secret message. I was so amazed by her performance that I thought: I am just going to try this out, write a small script and do that with my first aid idea. That is how “Your FUN Crash Course in First Aid” by Vivien Tower was created. An idea that I finally, equally liked as much as my first idea. It just took me longer and a little more detailing, but again: I am very proud of myself for putting myself out of my comfort zone again and actually acting in front of a whole class which I have never done before. I was very nervous, but the joy and the afterwards very positive feedback conquered the feeling of anxiety. I was and still am very happy with the result and I hope that people were able to laugh, enjoy, but also think about the secret message that was displayed behind performance: Go and refresh your first aid skills. I would very much like to do it again and it would be a great consequence if some people took on my advice.
