This looping animation was created with the app Procreate. It shows the never-ending metamorphosis of an animal-like creature which transforms into a round shape, a fertilized egg, an embryo, and again an animal-like creature. The inspiration for this animation came from Bill Morrison's "Decasia". Similar to the Rorschach test, some of the fragments caused by the silent films' decay awoke associations in me. One fragment in particular, the one first seen in the animation, looked like a rat to me. The rat, often associated with death due to the black plague, creates the beginning of a life and death circle. The heavy breath can symbolize either heavy last breaths before death, or a deep, vitalizing breath. The metamorphosis of the body on the threshold between life and death is presented here.
