Minute 19

Minute 19

When I first watched the video, I had absolutely no idea what to do with it. I felt absolutely no connection. My head was EMPTY. Also, for some reason I cannot quite fathom, I did not particularly like the clip at first. It took me quite some time to organize my thoughts, at least come up with some key words associated with the video. I couldn't quite comprehend that, because there is actually a lot more going on than in my first video, yet I could not really relate to it.

Ultimately, I calmly sat down, watched the video again, and wrote down all terms that popped into my head. Afterward, I sat down with my parents and asked them what they thought about it, because I had no idea for a product despite my keywords. We then discovered that we had both similar and different associations. Commonalities were: carpets, patchworks, mending, weaving, orient, desert, des. Furthermore, my father also thought of industrialisation, while my mother thought of change, transformation, and creation.

But the crucial element for all of us were the carpets and the weaving. We all thought (in different ways and variations) of villages and women in clay houses making (patchwork) carpets. However, at the same time, we also had to think of beautiful oriental carpets.

Therefore, my final products are a self-made patchwork rug (not made by myself, but by my mother (?)) and a beautiful praying carpet. I would have preferred a nice red oriental one, because the one in my imagination was very elaborate and red (we used to have a nice, big, red oriental carpet in our living room), but unfortunately, we no longer have one of those. If we had met in presence, I would have brought the real carpets with me as my final products.
