Minute 27 (by Paula Rieth)
Minute twenty-seven comprises a few different pictures, one of which I chose as lead picture: a couple hugging each other as the world around them fell apart. The image immediately spoke to me because I recognized it as something I knew from poetry and music: having an anchor, someone or something to hold on to as the world around one falls apart. I immediately thought of one song in particular, but then found more and more songs that I could relate to the feeling I seemed to recognize in the minute. So I collected these songs and wrote the lyrics that fit the best with the imagery over a screenshot of the minute and made that screenshot the cover of the playlist I created, titled “the day that we’ll watch the death of the sun”, after a lyric in one of the songs. I tried to sort them into different categories, from metaphorical to literal apocalypse. The first line of the whole playlist is “Breathe the air again/It’s a beautiful day”, which creates a stark contrast to the last line “The end is here.” After that line, the song ends in screaming.
