Minute 49

Minute 49 (by Leyla Kurtoglu)

As the Minute reminded me of war and catastrophe, I realized that war is never-ending. It happened in the past, it is happening now and sadly, it will happen in the future. As we are living in Germany, we do not feel affected by the terrible things that are happening right now in this world. War seems to be far away, but it is not…
This video is telling the story of my mother. My mother is from Bosnia and Herzegovina and was forced to leave her homeland with her mother and sisters because of the war. She is from a town called Srebrenica and this town happens to be the place where the biggest massacre on European soil happened. With this video, I want to remind myself but also the viewers that we must appreciate every moment and not forget to be grateful for living in a country like Germany, where life seems to be perfect (compared to other countries and living situations).
