Minute 21

When I watched my minute for the first time, I felt rather uncomfortable because the three scenes
don’t have anything in common (a man holding a film reel, a merry-go-round, and some men
probably discussing?). After a while, I noticed something creepy. Maybe you see it too.
There is a man standing in/next to (?) the merry-go-round staring right into the camera. Same for
the little boy on the left next to the men discussing. He looks right into the camera and then
disappears. This was something I could work with. I came up with an idea that is probably hard to
explain in English. However, I am pretty sure that you all have experienced moments when you
see/smell/touch something and it makes you remember someone? It kind of scares you, makes
you sad or just triggers any other emotion or memory that you connect with that specific person. I
always liked to think that this person did that on purpose, to make you think of them. That this
person still exists somewhere near you, waiting for a moment to enter your consciousness.
What I did: I read four poetry and prose collections (She must be mad-Charly Cox, Born to Love,
Cursed to Feel-Samantha King, milk and honey-rupi kaur, and Swimming Lessons-Lili Reinhart)
in order to look for poems that supported my weird idea. The following is a dialogue between the
man holding the film reel and the memory that is represented by the creepy man and boy in the
scenes (also I like to think that the man holding the film reel is looking at the merry-go-round and
discussing scene). Something about the man and the boy just triggered a memory and now he’s
“talking” to the memory or… the spirit? That’s for you to decide.
I have never done this before, so please be kind :)
